One Special Day

Photobucket

Today was a special day not only for me but for my Kobsters. While it was his 7th Birthday (**sob, sob** he's growing much too fast!) I finished my Associates Degree! What a relief! I thought I would NEVER make it, but today I did. It has been very rewarding, but hard all at the same time. Ahem... a certain Hitler teacher shall remain nameless. To all those that were so supportive, encouraging and who believed in me when I couldn't-THANK YOU! I am so grateful for the wonderful people in my life that have helped me get through. I start another semester tomorrow and will be applying for the BFA program this spring. My ultimate dream is to go to grad school and get a MFA and teach college one day.

Little Man... Happy Birthday! I love and adore you so much. You are going to grow up to be someone so amazing-I just know it. You, me, Kangaroo Zoo and some steaks SOON!

Happenings

Not too much to blog about really. Last week I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I didn't get put under or have Nitrous-my choice. Those needles were amazingly INTENSE though. WOW... Seriously, I thought they were going to come through my cheeks! That and I have NEVER in my life felt SO much pressure. Honestly I thought I was going to crawl out of my skin. However, I have an AMAZING Oral Surgeon and it only took him 25mins to get the job done. When everything wore off and I wasn't numb at all, there was NO pain. My jaw has been really tender lately and the first few days of eating took so long that I'd just get bored and give up. Things are healing very nicely though and there's been no swelling at all. Dr. Tate Vieweg is the man for the job is all I can say!

That same night after he took my teeth out, Jory and I went up to the Oquirrh Mountain LDS Temple open house. We went with Cort and Ash and their two kids and stopped off at Ikea for dinner first (man, we LOVE that place!) The temple was amazing though. I LOVED the spirit I felt while I was there. It was so powerful and I just couldn't stop smiling inside. Clearly, it took too much effort to smile on the outside! ;) What a beautiful temple though. If you have the chance to go, you REALLY need to go. There is a lot of tile in that temple and I LOVE IT! The chandelier is exquisite! When going to something like this, my testimony is only strengthened of the Gospel because of the strong, quiet power felt. It feels so good to know who I am and what I want out of life. I may not have it all, but I'm working towards these things.

One week tonight I will be done with my two year degree. I am so proud of myself. I am not a bragger by any means, but really... I worked HARD!!! I sacrificed SO much for this too. I am for sure planning on going for a BFA but am taking some time off to get some things in life worked out first but I can't wait to get back in there. There is such a great feeling of self worth and accomplishment in doing what I'm working towards. I still want to teach Alternative Photography in college and plan on doing some fun summer projects in this department. Anyone that wants to join in, give me a call.

Yesterday I drove up to see my two cousins Kenz and Shand. Wow... these girls are amazing and I haven't seen Shand in so long! I miss them (and Bren too!!!) I adore these girls and wish I could hang out with them more. It was so good to see you girls! Shand took a few pics that hopefully I can have and post! Well, I guess this might just be my monthly post!

Ok, so if you have a weak stomach or are easily offended-DON'T SCROLL DOWN!!
I figured my sister Geena and cousin Shanda would appreciate these. ;)

Landscape Summer 09

Here's some things I've been working on in my Landscape class. It's been a very relaxing class with low stress. These pics are mainly at Squaw Peak and some cow pasture out in the sticks. Travis seems to like taking us out in the middle of no where with no lick of civilization for MILES... We just got back from the Spiral Jetty at 1am this morning and then we're off to Capital Reef this upcoming weekend. Amazing world out there I tell you!

A New Post

We are for sure over due for a new post! The semester is finally over and I've already started a new one. I will have my Associates June 24 and then it's off to apply for the BFA. This semester I've been taking a Landscape Photography class and it has been amazing. Although I do not specialize in this field of Photography, it's been a peaceful and calming class.

It's been rainy quite a bit lately but while it was nice out, we ventured up to the Draper LDS Temple today (I mean yesterday since it's technically Monday now). WOW... I love this temple! It's is GORGEOUS! The clouds there were phenomenal as well. Here's a few of the view!

Hopefully I will be able to put a few more posts up here soon since I'm not as overwhelmed-but don't count on it! Lol...

School Ramblings

Yeap, finals are here again! Last night I met up with about half the students in my Alternative Photography Class and we pulled an all nighter in the dark room. I'm serious here... I got to the school at about 8:30pm and didn't get home till about 5AM! What in the world was I thinking? I'm too old for that crap! And yes, I DID go to work today too. Can I just tell you though, I had SO much fun! We're doing this process called "Van Dyke's" and it is TOO much fun and so addicting. I desperately want a darkroom now. Anyways, we take digital images, make digital negatives out of them. We coated Watercolour paper with gelatin and then all the chemicals from the Van Dyke Kits. Put the digital files with the coated paper and expose them to ultra violet light. You don't develop these the traditional way in the dark room either. They look GORGEOUS!!! WOW... It is such a LONG process but one that I am so in love with! I can't wait till the next darkroom night.

My teacher looked at my images I had printed as 8x10's and said, "SHUT UP!! Are you serious?! Do you just love them or what?! SHUT UP!! Oh no Sherry... you need to go BIGGER!" Who am I to question my teachers better judgement right? Hey, it's another excuse to get back in the dark room!

The bummer thing is, I have to scan these images so show them to you, so who knows if that's going to happen. Finals are about a week away now so life is pretty intense right now, but I'm doing good. I feel good about how my projects are going. I am going to miss Alternative Photography 2, but can't wait for the other class to be over.

PS-I just found out that I got a 95% on my latest Art History Exam! I can't believe it. I'm so happy and proud of my accomplishments. I am better then I thought and so are you!

WOW!!!

Last night I went to the opening of the UVU (school I am attending) Woodbury Art Gallery Show. As students in the Art Program, our teachers require us to submit pieces into the show. I had submitted a few pieces but wasn't expecting anything to come from it. When Jeanie and I were walking around, out of the corner of my eye, I had thought my eyes were deceiving me! There on the wall was MY Liquid Emulsion on Watercolour!! I was so shocked. Clearly we had different judges this year. I saw my amazing, inspiring teacher Barb and she gave me a big hug. One of the other girls in my class was there and had told me that they had a judge from BYU brought. She then told me that she didn't understand why my TWO pieces I had submitted were so far apart from each other. I was a little confused at that point, which she then told me that BOTH my pieces had been accepted!! WOW... Shut up!! I am in total awe... Pretty much I was on cloud nine last night.

Needed a Good Laugh

School has been totally stressing me out this semester. I love, love, love photography and want to continue progressing this talent but this one teacher I have makes me wonder if I have what it takes. It's been hard and the best advice I can give anyone out there who is thinking of going to UVU in the Photography Program-don't do it unless you like people who like to make your skin crawl!

Anyways, in this class I'm doing my semester project on how I perceive people and one of the persons I will be shooting is my brother. He reminds me so much like the character House, MD. No really-he does! I was researching some photos of House and his facial expression-which crack me right up. I found this image and man did I have a good laugh!

So Mike (if you even read this) if you ever wonder if I ever think about you-yeap, I sure do! ;)

I have an Art History test this weekend and I'm so nervous about it! I've been studying for a few hours today and need to get back to the drawing board. Hopefully all goes well!
