My Dad

Yesterday my Dad went to work and as he was arriving, his heart started to flutter pretty bad. He waited a little bit to see if it would stop, but it didn't. He decided to go over to the clinic just to have it checked out. They didn't like what they saw on his EKG, so they sent him by ambulance to the U of U hospital. Steph and I drove up together and met him in the ER. They had given him meds, but his heart was still just fluttering away. The did an echo cardio gram on his heart that my sister and I got to watch. We saw the fluttering on the monitor. It was small, but it's just not good. They moved him up to a room to keep him in over night. My Dad had a lot of blood draw and everything is coming back normal. We're not sure what caused the fluttering either. He was put on blood thinners. From what we were told, fluttering is dangerous because it can create blood clots, do heart damage and result in a heart attack if not treated. Last night they told us that if it didn't stop overnight, they would shock his heart today. Ummm... WHAT??

So... I talked to him this morning and he is still just fluttering away. My brother called me to tell me that they are making the appointment to shock his heart. They clearly are going to put him under for this. They have a few things they are going to try to get this to stop. When I had called to talk to the Dr before I went up yesterday, I was told that this is not a cause to freak out, but a cause of concern. REALLY?? I am a girl, this is MY Dad and I love him. Yes, I AM freaking out and worried. I've lost too many loved ones unexpectedly, so I know the drill. I know that anything can go wrong and I also know that things just happen.

My best friend almost lost her Dad over the weekend because he went missing out in the desert. Luckily, they found him. They said the survival rate and the chances of being found in the area he was at is only 20%. He clearly beat those odds and we are all so grateful! To come so close to loosing a parent is just nerve wracking! It's kind of weird that this has happened to us so close together and we have been calling each other several times a day since Thursday evening checking on each other's Dads and of course on each other. So we're pretty much soul mates these days.

Please remember my Dad in your prayers. He needs them. He is such a good person and I am so worried about him. I ultimately think he will be ok, but who wouldn't want to think that right?
I just can't imagine having to go through loosing a parent and hope that doesn't happen until I am much (very much) older!

So glad they got to it quickly. Dan's mom has this and has had her heart shocked. There's no question why hers is having trouble. They keep a close watch on her and the meds and things have kept her from having this problem again.

I hope that your dad is up and at em soon. It is a very scary thing. My dad had surgery last week. He's almost 75 and I don't know if I could deal with it if we didn't have him around. Let me know if you need anything. You are all in my prayers.

When it rains it pours!! Crazy how things like this all happen at once. I hope your dad gets better soon. We are thinking of you and your family!
