School Ramblings

Yeap, finals are here again! Last night I met up with about half the students in my Alternative Photography Class and we pulled an all nighter in the dark room. I'm serious here... I got to the school at about 8:30pm and didn't get home till about 5AM! What in the world was I thinking? I'm too old for that crap! And yes, I DID go to work today too. Can I just tell you though, I had SO much fun! We're doing this process called "Van Dyke's" and it is TOO much fun and so addicting. I desperately want a darkroom now. Anyways, we take digital images, make digital negatives out of them. We coated Watercolour paper with gelatin and then all the chemicals from the Van Dyke Kits. Put the digital files with the coated paper and expose them to ultra violet light. You don't develop these the traditional way in the dark room either. They look GORGEOUS!!! WOW... It is such a LONG process but one that I am so in love with! I can't wait till the next darkroom night.

My teacher looked at my images I had printed as 8x10's and said, "SHUT UP!! Are you serious?! Do you just love them or what?! SHUT UP!! Oh no Sherry... you need to go BIGGER!" Who am I to question my teachers better judgement right? Hey, it's another excuse to get back in the dark room!

The bummer thing is, I have to scan these images so show them to you, so who knows if that's going to happen. Finals are about a week away now so life is pretty intense right now, but I'm doing good. I feel good about how my projects are going. I am going to miss Alternative Photography 2, but can't wait for the other class to be over.

PS-I just found out that I got a 95% on my latest Art History Exam! I can't believe it. I'm so happy and proud of my accomplishments. I am better then I thought and so are you!

WOW!!!

Last night I went to the opening of the UVU (school I am attending) Woodbury Art Gallery Show. As students in the Art Program, our teachers require us to submit pieces into the show. I had submitted a few pieces but wasn't expecting anything to come from it. When Jeanie and I were walking around, out of the corner of my eye, I had thought my eyes were deceiving me! There on the wall was MY Liquid Emulsion on Watercolour!! I was so shocked. Clearly we had different judges this year. I saw my amazing, inspiring teacher Barb and she gave me a big hug. One of the other girls in my class was there and had told me that they had a judge from BYU brought. She then told me that she didn't understand why my TWO pieces I had submitted were so far apart from each other. I was a little confused at that point, which she then told me that BOTH my pieces had been accepted!! WOW... Shut up!! I am in total awe... Pretty much I was on cloud nine last night.
